Grand Valley State picked up two wins in three matches on its spring trip in Orlando, Fla. The Lakers defeated Saint Mary's (Ind.) and North Dakota, while tripping up against Brenau (Ga.). All three matches were decided by 8-1 margins. The Lakers return to Michigan on March 12.
On March 3, the Lakers played against both Brenau (Ga.) and Saint Mary's (Ind.). Against Brenau, the Lakers ran into a tough team and took away just one point. That point came in No. 4 singles, with Jaime Oppenlander picking up a 6-7 (5), 6-4, 11-9 win. Oppenlander also grabbed a 6-0, 6-2 win against Saint Mary's in No. 5 singles. Audrey Koopsen won at No. 1, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1. Darylann Trout blanked her opponent 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles and Jackie Shipman won 6-0, 7-5 at No. 5 singles. Finally, Emily Zellner picked up a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 6. GVSU took all three doubles points, as well.
On March 4, the Lakers picked up an 8-1 win over North Dakota. Jenna Killips won at No. 1 singles with a 6-1, 6-0 win. Koopsen's No. 2 singles win came with a score of 6-3, 7-5. Chelsea Johnston won at No. 3 singles with a score of 7-5, 6-4 and Trout picked up a No. 5 singles victory at 7-6 (2), 6-1. Shipman's score of 3-6, 6-1, 10-6 was good enough for a win at No. 6 singles. GVSU once again picked up all three doubles points.
