#5 Grand Valley State (4-1) took the third and final game of a three-game series at #29 Southern Indiana by a 10-6 score Sunday afternoon. GVSU claimed the series win by taking two-of-three games at USI. Grand Valley State will play a single nine-inning game at Missouri S&T Tuesday afternoon.
The Lakers opened the scoring early again with three runs in the top of first. CF Pat Radde walked and moved to second on a single by LF Eric Kruse. C Bobby Walmsley walked to load the bases and SS Dan Anstedt then came through with a two-out, base-clearing double down the leftfield line to give GVSU an early 3-0 lead. Southern Indiana answered with a single run in the bottom of the first off starter Danny Richard on two two hits. However, the Lakers came back with a single run in the top of the second. DH Brennen Glass reached on an error by the USI shortstop and advanced to second on a sac bunt by 2B Josh Hillyard. Glass then scored on a single to left by Radde. Southern Indiana came back with three runs in the bottom of the second to tie the game and then took a 6-4 lead with two runs in the bottom of the third off Richard. Joe Jablonski came in for Richard to get the final out in the third. The Lakers posted four runs in the top of the fourth on four hits to take an 8-6 lead. Glass singled with one out and took second on a wild pitch. Hillyard singled and Radde followed with a run scoring single to left. Kruse singled to left to score Hillyard and Derek Hinke walked to load the bases. A wild pitch scored Hillyard and Casey Robrahn scored Radde with a sac fly.
Radde singled with one out in the top of the sixth and Kruse reached base after being hit by a pitch. Hinke then drove in a Radde and Kruse with a double to right center to give GVSU a 10-6 lead. Jablonski was stellar in the first outing of his career as he finished the game to pick up the win. Jablonski struck out four and yielded just five hits 6.1 innings of work.
Radde collected three hits, scored three runs and drove in a pair, while Anstedt drove in three runs with his bases loaded double. Kruse was 2-4 with three runs and an RBI, while Hinke drove in a pair. The Lakers picked up 10 hits on the day. Grand Valley State outscored Southern Indiana 30-12 in the three-game series.
