The GVSU men's tennis team began its spring campaign with an 8-1 victory over Albion College. This was the Lakers' first dual match of the season as they improve to 1-0. Albion falls to 0-2. The Lakers took five of six singles matches and swept doubles play en route to the victory. Grand Valley State will travel to Indianapolis next weekend for dual matches with Southern Indiana and Northern Kentucky.
Tony Dang got a victory in No. 1 singles with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Jon Vandenburg. Renato Tamashiro knocked off Brandon Still, 6-3, 6-2. In No. 3 singles, Patrick Troy earned a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Andrew Lulek. Freshman Philipp Claus, making his debut for GVSU, picked up a 6-0, 6-4 win. Alex Switzer rounded out the victories, while Patryk Polus was the only Laker to fall.
In doubles play, Dang and Polus teamed up for an 8-4 win, while Troy and Tamashiro won by an 8-3 count. Switzer and Matt Globerson had no trouble in the final doubles spot, winning 8-1. Including tournament play, the tandem is now 7-1 on the year and is riding a four-match winning streak.
