Ringler's Double-Double Leads #9 Lakers Past Indianapolis

ALLENDALE, Mich. - Justin Ringler tallied a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds as the No. 9 Grand Valley State Lakers defeated Indianapolis 79-55 in the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena on Saturday evening. GVSU (4-0) out-rebounded the Greyhounds (1-5) by a 45-16 margin.

Ringler's 14 rebounds were a career-high, while the 14 points marked a season-high for the sophomore. Five other Lakers scored in double figures, led by Alvin Storrs, who paced the Lakers with a game-high 16 points. GVSU shot 64 percent (32-50) from the field while holding the Greyhounds to 33.3 percent (18-54).

Indianapolis stayed close in the early sections of the game, with the Lakers holding a slim 19-17 lead with 6:42 remaining in the first half. Two free throws by Ringler followed by a Storrs jumper were part of a 10-1 GVSU run that finished with a Toreau Brown layup with 2:34 left in the opening stanza to give the Lakers a 29-18 lead. Ringler finished the half with a jumper to beat the clock and send the teams into halftime with GVSU up 31-23.

Pete Trammell scored the first eight GVSU points of the second half, capped off by a tip-in at the 16:55 mark. Trammell then hit another layup with 14:49 remaining in the game to give GVSU a 14-point lead, 45-31. Trammell finished the game with 12 points and six rebounds.

After the Greyhounds climbed to within nine points with less than 10 minutes remaining, Storrs and Ringler scored seven straight points to put Grand Valley State ahead by a 16-point margin, 58-42. Four consecutive free throws by Jerret Smith and a layup by Przydzial put the game out of reach with 4:30 left, as GVSU raced to a 21-point lead. Brown hit a jumper with 22 seconds remaining to close out the scoring and give Grand Valley State a 79-55 win.
