GVSU Claims 57-50 Win Over Kentucky Wesleyan At Drury Classic

Springfield, MO. - Grand Valley State built a 33-19 halftime lead and held on for a 57-50 over Kentucky Wesleyan Friday at the Drury Classic in Springfield, Missouri. GVSU, now 3-0 on the year, will play Drury at 5 p.m. ET Saturday.

The Lakers jumped out to a 26-8 lead at the 6:25 mark of the first half when Taylor Silas drilled a three-pointer. Freshman guard Emma Veach hit a jumper from the wing with a minute left in the first half to give the Lakers a 33-19 halftime lead. The Panthers cut the Laker advantage to seven (45-38) at the 8:23 mark of the second half. Sophomore forward Kara Crawford answered with a jumper in the paint to build the lead back to nine (47-38) and Senior forward Kim Wyngaard added a layup to push the lead up to 11.

Freshman guard Emma Veach led the Grand Valley State with 14 points and six rebounds, while Kara Crawford chipped in 13 points and six boards. Sophomore Elizabeth Van Tiflin added six points and a 10 rebounds. Senior Kim Wyngaard scored five points and pulled down eight rebounds. GVSU held a 45-38 rebounding advantage.
