Women's Tennis Captures Third Straight Win

The GVSU women's tennis team capped off its weekend with a 3-0 record with its second straight shutout victory. The Lakers picked up the win at non-conference foe Tiffin, 9-0. Grand Valley improves to 3-0 overall, while holding on to a 2-0 GLIAC record and Tiffin falls to 0-4.

The Lakers swept doubles competition from the Dragons, as all three matches went the Lakers way. In a dominant performance, Audrey Koopsen and McCall Monte blanked their opponents, 8-0. The tandem of Emily Zellner and Jenna Killips also refused to lose a game, winning 8-0. In the third doubles slot, Chelsea Johnston and Darylann Trout picked up an 8-4 win,

Singles play saw much of the same, with the Lakers defeating the Dragons up and down the score sheet. Freshman Johnston earned a 6-2, 6-0 win in the No. 3 singles position. Trout, Katelyn Grashorn, and Jackie Shipman all earned straight set victories for Grand Valley. In the No. 1 position, Killips won in three sets, 6-1, 2-6, 10-1 while Koopsen got the win by a 6-1, 6-0 count.

The six Grand Valley starters are posting a combined record of 37-9 (.804) on the season. Meanwhile in doubles, GVSU is 20-5 (.800) on the year. The Lakers will return to conference action on Friday, Sept. 28 against Michigan Tech in Allendale, marking their first home match of the year. The match is set to start at 3:00 pm.
