Lakers Pick Up 9-0 Win Over Ashland

The Grand Valley State women's tennis team won its second match in as many days, blanking Ashland, 9-0. The Lakers handed Ashland its first loss of the season, as the Eagles drop to 7-1 overall and 3-1 in GLIAC play. GVSU improves to 2-0 on the year with the win.

The Lakers once again were perfect in doubles play, taking all three from Ashland. Seniors Jenna Killips and Emily Zellner knocked off their opponents in the No. 2 doubles slot, 8-1. The tandem improves to 6-1 on the season. The freshman duo of Chelsea Johnston and Darylann Trout also improved their record 6-1 on the season with an 8-1 victory. McCall Monte and Audrey Koopsen earned an 8-3 win in the top doubles slot.

GVSU was equally as impressive in singles action as they ripped off all six of its wins in straight sets. Junior Koopsen picked up a 6-1, 6-1 victory in the No. 2 doubles slot while Killips won by a 6-0, 7-6 (7-2) margin. Freshman Jackie Shipman refuses to lose a game this weekend as she again shut out her opponent, 6-0, 6-0. Three Laker freshmen held down the #3, 4 and 5 singles slots as Johnston, Trout, and Katelyn Grashorn all earned victories.

All six Lakers who competed in singles play on Saturday are sporting winning records. GVSU will complete its weekend road trip with a match at Tiffin on Sunday. The match is slated for 11:00 am.
