GVSU Drops Close Decision At Wayne State, 5-4

Grand Valley State dropped a 5-4 contest at Wayne State Sunday in a non-conference match that took over eight hours. The Lakers fall to 16-6 overall while the Warriors improve to 18-6 overall. GVSU will play its next three matches in Indianapolis, Ind. The Lakers will match up with Drury on March 30 at 3:00 p.m., Indianapolis on March 31 at 2:00 p.m., and IUPUI on April 1 at 9:00 a.m.

Grand Valley won two out of three doubles matches, but Wayne State picked up four out of six wins in singles action to win the match. Three of the six singles matches went three full sets. At #1 singles, Amanda Pressotto beat sophomore Lindsay Grimmer, 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 (10-8). Junior Jenna Killips tallied a 0-6, 6-2, 6-0 win over Colette Cabot at #2 singles and sophomore Audrey Koopsen defeated Steph Nicolson at #3 singles, 7-5, 6-1. In #4 singles play, Dee Mays knocked off junior Emily Zellner, 6-2, 6-3, while Meghan Luzod beat freshman McCall Monte 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 at #5 singles. Stephanie Van Tuyl picked up a 6-4, 5-0 default win over sophomore Jaime Oppenlander at #6 singles.

In #1 doubles action, Nicolson and Mays knocked off Grimmer and Zellner, 8-3. At #2 doubles, Koopsen and Monte teammed up to defeat Pressotto and Cabot, 8-5 and Killips and Oppenlander beat Van Tuyl and Luzod, 8-1 at #3 doubles.
