Grand Valley State tallied a 1-0 win over North Georgia and a 6-3 victory over American International on Friday. The Lakers improve to 6-2 overall. GVSU will play three games on Saturday, March 10. The Lakers will play regional foe West Liberty, #24 Barry, and Florida Gulf Coast.
Neither team scored in the first six innings of action in the North Georgia game. The Lakers held the Saints scoreless in the top of the seventh and scored the game winning run in the bottom half of the inning. Junior center fielder Lisa Preuss started off the inning by reaching first base on a throwing error by the Saints short stop. Sophomore third baseman moved her to second as she bunted for a single. Freshman pinch hitter Breanne Kronberg singled off a new pitcher to load the bases. Sophomore left fielder Karen Walters brought in the winning run as she reached first base on a fielding error by the right fielder.
Sophomore Lori Andjelich (2-1) picked up the win as she pitched all seven innings of play. She allowed just three hits and struck out 11. The Lakers tallied five hits, all by different batters.
