The GVSU women's tennis team started their spring season in winning fashion with an 8-1 victory over Albion College on Sunday. The Lakers were victorious in five of six singles matchups and all three doubles matches en route to the 8-1 win. Grand Valley's next match will be against Hope College on Thursday, Feb. 22.
In singles play, sophomore Audrey Koopsen tallied a 6-2, 6-1 win over Michelle Mulder. McCall Monte and Jaime Oppenlander also defeated their opponents in straight sets in the fifth and sixth singles slots. Junior Emily Zellner earned a hard-fought 6-4, 1-6, 7-6(8-6) victory in No. 4 singles. Jenna Killips also won her match in three sets. Lindsay Grimmer was the lone Laker to fall.
GVSU cleaned up in doubles play, taking all three matchups from the Britons. Emily Zellner and Lindsay Grimmer recorded an 8-6 win, Audrey Koopsen and McCall Monte won by an 8-4 count, and Jenna Killips and Jaime Oppenlander blanked their opponents, 8-0.
