#10 Grand Valley State improved to 22-3 overall and 13-3 in GLIAC play with an 87-64 win over the Chargers of Hillsdale (14-11, 6-10) Saturday night in the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena. Senior Mike Hall tallied his 1,000th point of his career in the game as he poured in 17 in the senior night win. Junior Jason Jamerson led all scorers with 20 points. The Lakers return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 21 at 8 pm when they travel to University Center, Mich. to take on Saginaw Valley State.
Grand Valley led the entire first half but were unable to pull away from Hillsdale as the Laker lead was not stretched beyond seven points through the first 14 minutes. After the Chargers tied the game at 26 with 6:06 to play in the half, the Lakers rolled off a run that would seal the game. GVSU outscored Hillsdale by a 20-3 margin over the final six minutes en route to a 46-29 halftime advantage. Mike Hall and Jason Jamerson fueled the run as Jamerson poured in seven points and Hall added nine of his own.
Grand Valley scored a majority of its points in the paint for the second straight game as 28 of its 46 points were in the lane and shot 64.5 percent from the field. Jason Jamerson tied a career-high in the opening 20 minutes with 16 points on 7-of-8 shooting.
The Lakers continued to disrupt the Chargers in the second half maintaining their 17 point halftime lead and lengthening it to as many as the final margin of 23. The Grand Valley bench poured in 24 second half points and tallied another 20 points in the lane.
Jamerson tallied his seventh 20 point game of the season as he was a near perfect 8-of-10 from the field. Jamerson also dished out three assists and pulled four rebounds in the winning effort. Hall became the 28th member of the 1,000 point club at Grand Valley with 17 points on 7-of-14 shooting and handed out a career-high five assists in the game. The Lakers tallied 21 assists on 33 buckets. Callistus Eziukwu added 11 points in the game in just 16 minutes of action.
Playing in their final regular season home games seniors Dan Redder and Kyle Carhart recorded eight and nine points, respectively. Fellow seniors Hall, guard Brian Arnold, and center Spencer Clayton also played in their last regular season contest.
The GLIAC North Champions will finish the regular season on the road against Saginaw Valley State (Feb. 21, 8 pm) and Ferris State (Feb. 24, 7:30 pm). GVSU dropped a 72-71 decision earlier this season to the Cardinals on a buzzer-beating three at the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena in its only home loss of the year.
