The Grand Valley State women's tennis team picked up its second win in as many days with a 9-0 shutout of Findlay. The Lakers improve to 9-1 and 8-1 in GLIAC play on the year, with their only loss coming at the hands of first-place Northwood. GVSU has finished regular season play and will now prepare for the GLIAC Tournament, which takes place in Midland, Mich. starting Saturday, Oct. 27 at 9:00 am. The Lakers finished second in last year's tournament, falling to Northwood, 5-1.
In doubles play on Saturday, Audrey Koopsen and McCall Monte teamed up for an 8-2 win in No. 1 doubles. Jenna Killips and Emily Zellner picked up an 8-4 victory in No. 2 doubles and improve their regular season record to 8-1. In the third doubles slot, Katelyn Grashorn and Jackie Shipman earned an 8-6 victory over their opponents.
The Lakers continued to roll in singles play, as they swept the Oilers in all six matches in straight sets. Killips won, 6-3, 7-5, while Koopsen was victorious by a 6-0, 6-3 count. Chelsea Johnston won easily by a 6-0, 6-1 margin. Freshman Darylann Trout had no problem in a 6-1, 6-1 match in No. 4 singles. Jaime Oppenlander picked up a 6-2, 6-4 win and Whitney Bindus, seeing her first action of the season, won in the No. 6 slot, 6-3, 6-1.
