Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. - #9-ranked GVSU jumped out to a 22-3 lead and never looked back en route to a 63-33 GLIAC road win Thursday night in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. Juniors Jason Jamerson and Callistus Eziukwu led the way for the Lakers with 11 points apiece. GVSU lengthened its lead in the GLIAC with the win and improves to 13-2 overall and 5-2 in the GLIAC, while LSSU drops to 5-9, including 3-4 in conference play.

GVSU scored the first 11 points and did not allow the host Lake Superior State Lakers to score until the 13:47 mark of the first half. The Lakers answered the single point with a 11-2 run to push its lead to 19 (22-3) with 8:51 to play. Callistus Eziukwu hit back-to-back jumpers with under a minute to play in the opening stanza as GVSU held a 34-10 lead, before LSSU's Mike Rader hit a buzzer-beating three to cut the margin to 21 (34-13). The 13 points tied the fewest the Lakers have allowed in a first half in school history. The 1979 Lakers held Hillsdale to 13 points in a half on Feb. 3.

Lake Superior State outscored Grand Valley 13-10 through the first nine minutes of the second half before GVSU locked down and outscored the host Lakers 19-2 to end the game. Eziukwu tallied 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting and pulled down seven rebounds on the night. Eziukwu swatted away two shots to break the GVSU career record for blocked shots with 199 in his three years. Jamerson equaled Eziukwu's 11 points in the game. Nine different players tallied a point on the night and 11 players grabbed a rebound. Freshman David Thompson tied Eziukwu for the team lead in rebounds with seven in the win. The Grand Valley bench nearly oustcored Lake Superior State on its own as they accounted for 29 points on the evening.

GVSU has now held four consecutive opponents under 50 points for the first time in school history and will continue its road trip this Saturday when they face off against Northern Michigan at 3 pm in Marquette, Mich. GVSU captured an 87-49 last weekend against the Wildcats in the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena. The Lakers will return home on Wednesday, Jan. 17 against Marygrove at tip off against the Mustangs at 7 pm.
