The Grand Valley State women's tennis team improved to 3-1 on the season with an impressive 8-1 victory over Michigan Tech (4-2). The Lakers swept all three doubles matches and took five of six singles matches from the Huskies. GVSU will take on Lake Superior State on Saturday at 10:00 am in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.
Junior Jenna Killips found the victory column for the Lakers with a 6-1, 7-6 (7-5) win in No. 2 singles. In the #3 slot, Audrey Koopsen defeated Samantha Jang-Stewart 7-6 (7-0), 6-2. Koopsen is now 5-1 on the season in singles action. Emily Zellner beat Whitney Schoep of Michigan Tech 7-6 (7-2), 6-1. McCall Monte and Jaime Oppenlander were also victorious for GVSU with impressive two-set wins. Lindsay Grimmer was the lone Laker to fall as she was defeated 6-1, 6-1 by Michigan Tech's Amy Palmgren.
Grand Valley also played well in doubles action, sweeping the Huskies in all three matches. The team of Audrey Koopsen and McCall Monte, who are now 7-1 on the year, defeated Katie Lindahl and Amy Palmgren, 8-3. Lindsay Grimmer and Emily Zellner won by an 8-3 score in the No. 1 slot. Jenna Killips and Jaime Oppenlander wrapped up play with an 8-3 win.
