#2 Grand Valley State improves ended its five-match road trip with a 3-0 (30-22, 30-23, 30-27) sweep at Lake Superior State. GVSU has won 14 straight matches and improves to 14-1 overall and 7-0 in the GLIAC. The Lakers will return home as they host Gannon on Friday, Sept. 29 at 7:00 p.m. and Mercyhurst on Saturday, Sept. 30 at 4:00 p.m.
GVSU dominated the match from the beginning as it hit .371 in the first game, a 30-22 victory. The Lakers continued to play well, hitting .368 to take game two, 30-23. Grand Valley closed out the match with a 30-27 game three win. GVSU hit .320 as a team in the match, while Lake Superior State hit just .133.
Senior middle blocker Meghan Moore posted 16 kills, a .462 hitting percentage, and one solo block to lead GVSU. Junior middle blocker Erica Vandekopple recorded 13 kills, three service aces, three digs, one solo and three assisted blocks, while hitting .571. Sophomore setter Jamie Ashmore had 25 assists, two aces, three digs, and two kills, while sophomore Danielle Alexander added six kills and three assisted blocks.
Sophomore outside hitter Lauren Reber tallied six kills, six digs, and an ace and freshman outside hitter Kaity Gormley added six kills and two digs. Junior outside hitter Cortney Lokker recorded six kills and eight digs.
