#1 Grand Valley State defeated Angelo State, 3-0 (30-16, 30-18, 30-20), in its final match of the Florida Southern Classic in Lakeland, Fla. The Lakers return home with a 3-1 overall record. GVSU will travel to the Ashland Invitational to play four matches next weekend (Sept. 1-2).
Grand Valley won the first game of the match, 30-16, after hitting .300 as a team. GVSU tallied a .444 team hitting percentage to win game two, 30-18. The Lakers closed out the win with a 30-20 game three victory.
As a team, Grand Valley hit .318, while Angelo State hit -.031. The Lakers recorded 12 more kills, seven more service aces, and seven more team blocks than the Belles.
Senior Meghan Moore posted her fourth straight game with 10 or more kills as she tallied 11 kills, a .625 hitting percentage, and two assisted blocks. Junior Erica Vandekopple added eight kills, while hitting .889 and junior Cortney Lokker had five kiils, four digs, and five assisted blocks.
Junior Alyson Riley recorded 14 digs and six service aces and sophomore Jamie Ashmore added 16 assists. Sophomore Danielle Alexander tallied three kills and one solo and four assisted blocks. Senior Megan Helsen posted four kills, four service aces, and seven digs.
