Lakers Fall 5-1 to Ferris State in NCAA Regionals

Grand Valley State dropped a 5-1 decision to Ferris State in the first round of the NCAA Division Great Lakes Regional Championships held in Midland, Mich. The Lakers conclude the season with a 16-9 overall record. It marks the second straight year GVSU has made the regioinal tournament.

Grand Valley State was the #6 seed, while Ferris State was seeded #3. The Bulldogs won two out of three doubles matches and picked up three wins in singles action to take the 5-1 victory. Benton Bacon and Mark Hammelman defeated Kyle Dehne and Adam Sandusky 8-4 in the #1 doubles slot. Scott Gregory and Nirun Raju beat Kyle Halberg and Kevin Brundle 9-8 (7-2) at #2 doubles. At #3 doubles, Bryan Karazia and Andrew Gunberg won an 8-3 decision over Mike Bambini and Jose Rivas.

At #2 singles, Hammelman defeated Sandusky, 6-2, 6-0 and in the #4 slot, Lewie DeGeneault beat Raju, 6-3, 6-1. Corey Banghart tallied a 6-1, 6-0 win over Jim Farmer at #6 singles.
