Grand Valley State was defeated 7-1 by #19 Gannon University in the Great Lakes Region Tournament. The Lakers end their season with a 35-21 overall record, while Gannon improves to 41-17.
Gannon scored five runs on five hits and one Laker error in the bottom of the second inning to take a commanding 5-0 early lead. The Golden Knights added two more runs on four hits in the fifth to go up 7-0.
GVSU scored its lone run in the top of the seventh to make the final score, 7-1. Junior first baseman Crista Buresh singled to left field to start off the inning and advanced to second base on a passed ball. She then moved to third on a wild pitch. Sophomore designated player Elizabeth Smith walked to put runners on the corners with no one out. Freshman pinch hitter Karen Walters singled down the left field line to bring in the Laker run.
Freshman Lori Andjelich started the game, pitching one inning of action. She allowed four hits and three earned runs, suffering the loss. She finished her first season as a Laker with a 16-12 record. Sophomore Stephanie Cole finished the game, giving up six hits, two earned runs, while striking out two batters.
The Lakers tallied four hits and was led by Walters who went 1-for-1 with the RBI.
