Grand Valley State's Women's Tennis team went 4-1 on its spring trip and improved to 6-2 in the spring. The Lakers returned home and won a 7-2 decision over West Michigan foe Hope last week. GVSU will take on Lake Superior State on Friday, March 24 at MVPS Sports.
The Lakers dropped a 5-2 decision to IUPUI to open the 2006 season. Alison Koopsen picked up a 6-4, 6-4 win while Jenna Killips won 6-2, 6-1 for GVSU's only wins. Grand Valley bounced back with a 6-3 win at Albion College. The Lakers nearly swept the singles flights winning five of the six matches but did not have the same fortune in the doubles competition dropping two of three matches with the lone win going to Lindsay Grimmer and Jaime Oppenlander with a 9-7 victory.
Grand Valley State's spring trip saw four wins in five matches with the Lakers claiming an 8-1 win over Sacred Heart, a 9-0 win against Stonehill College, a 6-3 victory over Coe College and another 8-1 win this time against Mount St. Mary's. The Lakers lone loss came to Bowling Green by a 6-1 margin. Alison Koopsen won the Lakers lone match beating the Falcons' Ashley Jakupcin 6-4, 6-2.
GVSU returned home and took on Hope on March 15 picking up the 7-2 win with the Lakers taking five of six singles flights and two of three doubles. Jenna Killips, Audrey Koopsen, and Emily Zellner have each won five consecutive matches. Killips is 8-1 in her last 10 matches. The Lakers doubles play has also been consistent with the Alison Koopsen/Emily Zellner and Jenna Killips/Audrey Koopsen duos posting five consecutive wins and 6-4 marks in their last 10.
Grand Valley will take on Lake Superior State (March 24) and Wayne State (March 26) this weekend in two home contests.
