Lakers Pick Up A Pair Of Wins Over Concord, 6-2 and 14-7

Parkersburg, WV - Grand Valley State swept a doubleheader from Concord University Sunday afternoon in Parkersburg, WV. The Lakers claimed a 6-2 victory in game one, followed by a 14-7 win in game two. GVSU improves to 13-3 on the year heading into a four-game series at Findlay this Saturday (March 25) and Sunday (March 26).

Game 1

Concord took a 1-0 lead in the top of the sixth, but the Lakers put six on the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth.Nick Sandy and Chad Rohacs singled to opening the inning, followed by a Lee VanStreain walk. LF Pat Radde doubled in two runs and Jeff Carrero singled in two more runs with a single. Dan Skirka reached on a bunt single and before Brandon Bard plated a pair of runs when he reached on an error. RF Nick Sandy was 3-3, while Pate Radde was 2-2 with two RBIs. Career drove in a pair runs on his single. Dan Skirka, Spud McKenzie, and Chad Rohacs all singled. Jeremy Dow struck out six and yielded five hits in 5.2 innings, while Jeff Sinicki picked up the win in relief. Sinicki gave up one run and three hits in 1.1 innings of work.

Game Two

Grand Valley State in six of seven innings played en route to a 14-7 victory over Concord in game two. GVSU scored two in the first, followed by four in the second and two in the third. GVSU added a single run in the fifth to take a 9-2 lead. However, Concord rallied for five runs in the bottom half of the fifth to pull within two (9-7). The Lakers came back with two in the sixth and five in the seventh to pull away. Dan Skirka collected three hits and drove in three runs, while Casey Robrahn added three hits and an RBI. Jeff Carrero, Nick Smith, Brandon Bard and Nick Sandy each drove in a pair of runs for the Lakers. Grant Payton picked up his third win of the year. David Bowman picked up his first save of his career.
