#14 Grand Valley State advances to the GLIAC Tournament semifinals as they dominated Ferris State, 79-47 Tuesday night at the GVSU Fieldhouse. The Lakers are now 25-3 overall and Ferris State falls to 18-10. GVSU will host the semifinals and finals of the GLIAC Tournament on Friday, March 3 and Saturday, March 4. The Lakers will play Gannon on Friday, March 3 at 6:00 p.m.
Grand Valley jumped out to a 10-2 lead as they knocked down two three-pointers in the first three minutes of the game. GVSU went on a 13-3 run to take a 23-5 lead with 12:52 left in the first half. Grand Valley tallied another 15-4 run to push their lead to 29 points (38-9) with 3:24 remaining in the half. GVSU closed out the first half with two free throws by Niki Reams to take a 30-point, 43-13 halftime lead.
The Lakers knocked down six three-pointers, while tallying 12 offensive rebounds in the first half. Ferris State shot just 20.7% from the field in the first half.
Grand Valley held onto their lead in the second half and pushed it to 34 points (53-19) with 15:29 left in the game. GVSU went up by 35 points on a Taushauna Churchwell jumper at the 12:31 mark. The Lakers took their biggest lead of the game with 7:22 left to go up 71-34 on a layup by Jenny Steffen.
GVSU shot 62.5% in the second half and 47.5% in the game. The Lakers held a 43-36 rebounding advantage and recorded 36 points in the paint.
Senior forward Niki Reams led the Lakers with 20 points, nine rebounds, and five assists. Sophomore guard Crystal Zick chipped in 14 points, while junior guard Erika Ryskamp added 13 points, four rebounds, and three steals. Eleven different Lakers scored in the game.
