Lakers Fall 3-1 to Ashland in GLIAC Tournament Championship Match

#5 Grand Valley State dropped a 3-1 (26-30, 30-32, 30-18, 17-30) decision against Ashland in the GLIAC Tournament Championship Match on Saturday night in Hillsdale, Mich. The Lakers fall to 26-3 overall and Ashland improves to 20-9. GVSU will learn its NCAA Great Lakes Region Tournament future on Sunday, Nov. 5.

Game one went back and forth until late in the game went Ashland took a 26-22 lead. The Lakers cut the lead to two points, but the Eagles scored three out of the next four points to take game one, 30-26.

Ashland gained control of game two as well, going up four points, 21-17, but the Lakers scored four straight to tie it at 21-21. GVSU went up 26-23, but Ashland came back to tie the game at 28-28. The Lakers recorded two kills, but a GVSU service error and an Ashland kill tied the game at 30-30. Ashland scored the final to take game two, 32-30.

Grand Valley dominated game three, taking a 14-10 lead. The Lakers upped their lead to 22-12. GVSU went on to take the game 30-18. Ashland went on to dominate game four and seal the win with a 30-17 game four win.

Senior middle blocker Meghan Moore recorded a match-high 20 kills, two aces, one solo and three assisted blocks, while hitting .351. Sophomore middle blocker Danielle Alexander tallied 13 kills, four digs, two solo and five assisted blocks, while senior outside hitter Megan Helsen added seven kills and 10 digs. Sophomore setter Jamie Ashmore posted six kills, 39 assists, three aces, and 13 digs and junior middle blocker Erica Vandekopple had five kills, two digs, and two assisted blocks.
