#4-ranked Grand Valley State jumped out to 38-27 lead and never looked back en route to an 86-57 victory at Missouri-St. Louis Saturday night in St. Louis. GVSU improves to 4-0 on the year and will open GLIAC action Thursday (Nov. 30) at home against Saginaw Valley State.
GVSU led by 11 (38-27) after 20 minutes of action and then turned the game into a rout by outscoring UMSL 48-30 in the second half. GVSU hit a sizzling 54.2 percent from the floor (32-59) and dished out 23 assists on 32 buckets. The Lakers outrebounded the Rivermen 34-31 and turned the ball over 14 times, compared to UMSL's 23.
Junior Joel Whymer led GVSU with a career-high 17 points, hitting 5-of-6 three-pointers. Sophomore Pete Trammel added 14 points and four rebounds, while freshman David Thompson tallied a career-high 13 points. Senior forward Mike Hall scored 12 points and junior Jason Jamerson tallied eight points, six assists and five rebounds.
GVSU limited Missouri-St. Louis to just 35.3 percent shooting from the floor (18-of-51).
