GVSU Advances to GLIAC Tournament Semifinals With Sweep Over Northwood

#5 Grand Valley State swept Northwood, 3-0 (30-20, 30-22, 30-21) in the quarterfinals of the GLIAC Tournament Tuesday night. The Lakers improve to 25-2 overall, while the Timberwolves fall to 16-11. GVSU will play Ferris State in the semifinals of the GLIAC Tournament on Friday, Nov. 3 at 5:00 p.m. The semfinals and finals of the GLIAC Tournament will be hosted by #1 seed Hillsdale College and held at Jesse Phillips Arena in Hillsdale, Mich.

The Lakers dominated game one, posting a .515 hitting percentage and 19 kills to take game one, 30-20. Grand Valley continued its hot hitting in game two, recording a .406 team attack percentage in a 30-22 win. GVSU sealed the match with a 30-21 win in game three.

Senior middle blocker Meghan Moore posted a match-high 19 kills, three digs, one solo and one assisted block, while hitting .552. Sophomore middle blocker Danielle Alexander tallied 10 kills, two aces, two assisted blocks and hit .471, while junior middle blocker Erica Vandekopple added nine kills, one solo and two assisted blocks and hit .412.

Sophomore setter Jamie Ashmore recorded seven kills, 39 assists, seven digs and hit .636 and senior outside hitter Megan Helsen had four kills, five aces, seven digs, and three assists. Junior libero Alyson Riley added three aces and 12 digs.
