Lakers Sweep Northern Michigan, 3-0

#6 Grand Valley State knocked off Northern Michigan, 3-0 (30-27, 30-24, 30-20) in a GLIAC North Division match on Saturday afternoon. The Lakers improve to 23-2 overall and 16-1 in the GLIAC, while the Wildcats fall to 14-9 and 6-9. GVSU will conclude regular season play at home against West Michigan rival Ferris State on Friday, Oct. 27 at 7:00 p.m.

GVSU tallied 10 more kills than Northern Michigan in a tough battle in game one (21 to 11). The Lakers pulled out the 30-27 win. Grand Valley came back and hit .343 in game two to go up 2-0 with a 30-24 victory. The Lakers concluded the sweep after hitting .413 en route to a 30-20 game three win.

Grand Valley State hit .346 in the match, while Northern Michigan hit just .150. The Lakers posted 22 more kills, 20 more assists, and seven more blocks than the Wildcats.

Sophomore outside hitter Lauren Reber tallied a team-high 17 kills, six digs, three assisted blocks, and a .432 hitting percentage. Senior middle blocker Meghan Moore posted 16 kills, four digs, two assisted blocks, and hit .379 and senior outside hitter Megan Helsen added 11 kills, eight digs, three aces, three assisted blocks, while hitting .321. Sophomore middle blocker Danielle Alexander had five kills, three digs, and three assisted blocks and junior middle blocker Erica Vandekopple posted two kills and five assisted blocks. Junior libero Alyson Riley recorded 24 digs, while sophomore setter Jamie Ashmore added three kills, 42 assists, three digs, and two assisted blocks.
