The Grand Valley State women's tennis team won its sixth-straight GLIAC match on Saturday, defeating Wayne State, 6-3. With the win, the Lakers improve to 8-1 on the season. The match marked the end of regular season play for Grand Valley, as they will head to Midland, Mich. for the GLIAC tournament starting Friday, Oct. 27.
The Lakers started off well by taking all three doubles matches from Wayne State. The team of Emily Zellner and Lindsay Grimmer won, 8-2, over Wayne State's Steph Nicolson and Dee Mays. In the No. 2 slot, Audrey Koopsen and McCall Monte defeated Amanda Pressotto and Colette Cabot by an 8-5 count. Wrapping up doubles play for GVSU were Jenna Killips and Jaime Oppenlander, who downed Meghan Luzod and Sargam Bhatt, 8-2.
Wayne State battled the Lakers in single play, as GVSU was only able to take three of the six matches. Junior Jenna Killips was victorious for the Lakers, defeating Colette Cabot, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 in No. 2 singles. Also victorious for GVSU was freshman McCall Monte, who notched a 6-2, 6-1 over Stephanie Van Tuyl. Rounding out the singles wins for Grand Valley was sophomore Jaime Oppenlander, who beat Meghan Luzod, 6-3, 6-4.
