#6 GVSU Knocks Off Michigan Tech, 3-0

#6 Grand Valley State improves to 22-2 overall and 15-1 in the GLIAC after picking up a 3-0 (30-17, 30-16, 30-20) win over Michigan Tech Friday night. Michigan Tech falls to 13-12 and 9-6. The Lakers will host Northern Michigan on Saturday, Oct. 21 at 4:00 p.m. in the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena.

Grand Valley came out strong, hitting .516 as a team in game one. The Lakers tallied 20 kills to the Huskies nine and won the game, 30-17. GVSU hit .306 in game two as MTU hit .061 for the second straight game. Grand Valley won, 30-16 and sealed the match with a 30-20 game three win.

GVSU hit .372 as a team in the match, while MTU hit just .051. The Lakers recorded 24 more kills, five more aces, five more total blocks, and 24 more assists.

Senior middle blocker Meghan Moore led the team with 14 kills, four assisted blocks and a .360 hitting percentage. Sophomore outside hitter Lauren Reber posted 10 kills, six digs, and had an outstanding .714 hitting percentage, while sophomore middle blocker Danielle Alexander added 10 kills, four assists, three digs, one solo and three assisted blocks, as she hit .471.

Senior outside hitter Megan Helsen posted 10 kills, four digs, two assisted blocks, and a .421 hitting percentage. Sophomore setter Jamie Ashmore had 32 assists, eight digs, and three assisted blocks and junior libero added eight digs and six service aces.
