#6 Grand Valley State swept Lake Superior State, 3-0 (30-14, 30-21, 30-26) Thursday night at the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena. GVSU improves to 21-2 overall and 14-1 in the GLIAC, while LSSU falls to 5-19 and 2-13. Grand Valley will host Michigan Tech on Friday, Oct. 20 at 7:00 p.m. and Northern Michigan on Saturday, Oct. 21 at 4:00 p.m.
Grand Valley started the match off strong as it hit .500 in game one to claim a 30-14 win. GVSU posted nine more kills than LSSU in its 30-21 game three win and sealed the match with a 30-26 win in game three.
Grand Valley State hit .316 as a team in the match, while Lake Superior State hit just .049. GVSU dominated the match, posting 29 more kills, five more service aces, and 32 more assists.
Leading the way for GVSU was senior middle blocker Meghan Moore who tallied a match-high 17 kills, five service aces, six assisted blocks, four digs, and two assists, while hitting .387. Sophomore outside hitter Lauren Reber posted 10 kills, four digs and hit .316, while sophomore middle blocker Danielle Alexander added seven kills, three assisted blocks, three digs, and two assists. Senior outside hitter Megan Helsen recorded seven kills, seven digs, two assisted blocks, and hit .429 and junior middle blocker Erica Vandekopple had six kills, three digs, and a .375 hitting percentage.
Sophomore setter Jamie Ashmore tallied 36 assists, three kills, two aces, three digs, and two assisted blocks, while junior libero Alyson Riley had 17 digs. Freshman outside hitter Kaity Gormley recorded two kills and four assists and freshman Meghan Scanlon added four assists.
