#21 Lakers Claim 65-55 Victory At Wayne State

Detroit, Mich. - Four Lakers scored in double figures, led by a 15-point, 9-rebound performance by sophomore guard Jason Jamerson, as #21 Grand Valley State claimed a 65-55 GLIAC road win over Wayne State Thursday. GVSU improves to 16-3 overall and 8-2 in GLIAC action.

Wayne State's Erik Parker scored on a layup at the 10:20 mark of the first half to tie the game at 12-12, but the Lakers' Courtney James hit a three-pointer to key a 24-4 run over a span of 5:15 that ended with a three-pointer by Jason Jamerson. GVSU had built a 34-16 advantage at the 2:42 mark of the first half, only to see the Warriors' Kris Krzyminski score six straight points in the final 57 seconds to cut the Lakers' lead down to 12 (35-23) at the half. GVSU maintained at least a nine point lead until Wayne State's Herb Goliday scored at the 7:55 mark to pull the Warriors within six (50-44). GVSU and WSU traded baskets for the next three minutes before Courtney James (4-4), Kyle Carhart (2-4) and Callistus Eziukwu (2-2) combined to make 8-of-10 free throws in the closing minute to secure the victory.

GVSU has now held 13-of-19 opponents under 66 points and 11 of 19 under 52 points this season. In addition, GVSU has held 32-of-47 opponents under 67 points during the Ric Wesley era. Grand Valley State has won six straight games and 11-of-12.

GVSU shot 40.4 percent from the floor, while Wayne State converted just 29.6 percent. The Lakers hit 9-of-20 three pointers and 18-of-25 free throws. Jamerson led GVSU with 15 points and nine rebounds, while Pete Trammell hit three treys en route to 13 points. Callistus Eziukwu chipped in 11 points and four blocked shots, while Mike Hall added 10 points.

Grand Valley State will return to action Saturady at Ashland. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m.
