#24 Grand Valley State jumped out to a 48-23 haltime lead and never looked back en route to a 96-51 GLIAC home victory Thursday night. GVSU improves to 12-3 overall and 5-2 in GLIAC action.
GVSU built a 15-5 lead just eight minutes into the game and then led by 22 (32-10) with 8:22 left in the opening 20 minutes. The Lakers shot 55.6 percent in the opening half and then 61.3 percent (19-31) in the second stanza. GVSU converted 16-of-18 free throws and outrebounded LSSU 38-31. Grand Valley State dished out a season-high 33 assists and turned the ball over a season-low eight times. GVSU also notched 18 steals. In addition, the Lakers scored 56 points in the paint, 35 points off LSSU turnovers, and outscored Lake Superior State 24-0 in fast break points.
Sophomore guard Jason Jamerson led GVSU with 18 points and seven rebounds. Sophomore center Callistus Eziukwu chipped in 16 points, six blocked shots, six rebounds and four assists, while junior Kyle Carhart tallied career-highs in points (15) and assists (7). Senior guard Courtney James notched 12 points and seven assists and Nate Bassett added 10 points.
Grand Valley State will host Northern Michigan in a key GLIAC North Division matchup Saturday at 3 p.m. in the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena. The game can be seen live on Comcast Cable.
