Grand Valley State defeated Wayne State, 8-1, in its GLIAC opener Friday afternoon. The Lakers are 1-0 overall and in GLIAC play. Grand Valley will host Findlay in another GLIAC contest on Saturday at 10:00 a.m.

The Lakers swept all three doubles matches and won five out of six in singles action. Senior Alison Koopsen won at #1 singles, 6-3, 6-1. Freshman Lindsay Grimmer fell, 2-6, 7-5 (12-10) at #2 singles. Sophomore Jenna Killips picked up a 7-5, 6-1 win at #3 singles, while sophomore Emily Zellner won 6-3, 6-0 at #4 singles. Freshman Sarah Schweickart picked up a 6-0, 6-2 win in the #5 singles slot. Freshman Audrey Koopsen had a perfect start in her Laker debut, winning, 6-0, 6-0 at #6 singles.

Alison Koopsen and Zellner teammed up at #1 doubles for an 8-3 win, while Grimmer and Jaime Oppenlander won 8-2 at #2 doubles. Killips and Audrey Koopsen won 8-0 at #3 doubles.
