#15 Grand Valley Shuts Down Northern Michigan, 3-0

#15 Grand Valley State came out strong as they swept Northern Michigan, 3-0 (30-18, 30-20, 30-26) in a battle for first place in the GLIAC North. The Lakers improve to 13-4 overall and 5-1 in GLIAC action, while the Wildcats drop to 8-7 overall and 5-2 in the GLIAC.

The Lakers dominated game one, 30-18 as they tallied six more kills than NMU. GVSU picked up a 30-20 game two win and a come from behind, 30-26 win in game three.

Grand Valley State posted a .227 attack percentage in the match, while Northern Michigan hit just .033. The Lakers recorded 10 service aces and 16 total blocks, while the Wildcats had just three aces and five blocks.

Junior middle blocker Meghan Moore led the Lakers with nine kills, three digs, and a .615 hitting percentage, while posting five service aces and two solo and four assisted blocks. Sophomore middle blocker Erica Vandekopple added seven kills and a match-high nine assisted blocks, while senior outside hitter Tina Tromblay added seven kills, a .353 hitting percentage, two aces, nine digs, and four assisted blocks.

Senior Tracy Kirk recorded seven kills and seven assisted blocks and redshirt freshman Jamie Ashmore led GVSU with 18 assists and 10 digs. Sophomore Alyson Riley led the team with 14 digs and freshman Megan Walling added 13 assists.

The Lakers are 12-0 this season in matches that go to three games.

The match was the first-ever TV game for the Lakers. It will air on Wednesday, Oct. 5 on Comcast Local.
