Lakers Sweep Michigan Tech, 3-0

Grand Valley State tallied a 3-0 (30-16, 30-19, 30-19) sweep against GLIAC North Division opponent Michigan Tech. The Lakers improve to 12-4 overall and 4-1 in GLIAC action, while the Huskies drop to 7-7 overall and 3-3 in the GLIAC.

GVSU started off the match by hitting .500 to take game one, 30-16. The Lakers continued their success in games two and three, winning them both 30-19. Grand Valley State hit an outstanding .404 in the match, while Michigan Tech hit just .097.

Leading the way for the Lakers was senior middle blocker Tracy Kirk who tallied a match-high 14 kills, a .619 attack percentage, and two assisted blocks, while sophomore middle blocker Erica Vandekopple added eight kills, a .615 hitting percentage, two digs, one solo and three assisted blocks. Junior outside hitter Megan Helsen recorded eight kills, a .571 hitting percentage, three digs, and an assisted block.

Junior middle blocker Meghan Moore added six kills, a .400 attack percentage, and one solo and two assisted blocks. Senior outside hitter Tina Tromblay added seven kills, hit .300, and added 12 digs. Redshirt freshman Jamie Ashmore recorded 30 assists, while freshman Megan Walling had 21.

The Lakers will continue their five match home stint by hosting Northern Michigan on Friday, Sept. 30 at 7:00 p.m. and Lake Superior State on Saturday, Oct. 1 at 4:00 p.m.
