Grand Valley State swept Saginaw Valley State, 3-0 (30-16, 30-14, 30-17) in its GLIAC opener Friday night. The Lakers improve to 9-3 overall and will continue GLIAC play on the road at Northwood Saturday, Sept. 17 at 4:00 p.m.
Grand Valley hit .388 on the night, while the Cardinals recorded a .043 attack percentage. GVSU tallied eight service aces and eight total blocks en route to the win.
Leading the way for the Lakers was sophomore Erica Vandekopple who tallied a team-high 10 kills, a .500 hitting percentage, three digs, and two assisted blocks. Junior Megan Helsen added five kills and five digs, while hitting .444. Senior Tracy Kirk recorded six kills, a .417 hitting percentage, and a block, while junior Meghan Moore posted eight kills, two aces, three digs, and two solo and one assisted blocks. Sophomore Alyson Riley led the way with 14 digs, while redshirt freshman Jamie Ashmore tallied 23 assists.
