Grand Valley State dropped a 69-56 decision to Northern Michigan Thursday night at the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena. GVSU falls to 14-6 overall and 7-4 in GLIAC action. The Lakers still hold down first place in the GLIAC North Division over Michigan Tech and Ferris State.
Northern Michigan held a 34-24 halftime lead after shooting 50 percent (15-30), while GVSU converted 35.7 percent from the floor (10-28). GVSU pulled to within four (41-37) on a Jason Jamerson three-pointer at the 12:47 mark of the second half, but Northern Michigan came back with a three-pointer of its own on its next possession to pull out to a 44-37 lead. Jamerson hit another three-pointer to just minutes later, but NMU hit a three of their own to take a 48-40 lead. GVSU was unable get any closer than seven points for the remainder of the game.
GVSU shot a season-low 33.3 percent from the floor (20-for-60) and hit just 2-of-16 three-pointers. Northern Michigan won the battle of the glass by a 42-39 margin. Callistus Eziukwu led GVSU with 23 points, 10 rebounds and four blocked shots. Courtney James was the only other Laker in double figures with 14 points.
GVSU will host Michigan Tech Saturay (Feb. 5) at 3 p.m. Following the game the real Coach Carter will speak about the movie that is currently out called Coach Carter.
