#18 Grand Valley State saw its school-record 16-game winning streak come to an end Thursday night at Michigan Tech. The Lakers, ranked 1st in the latest NCAA DII Great Lakes Regional rankings, fall to 21-5 overall and 15-2 in GLIAC action. GVSU will be at Northern Michigan Saturday for a 1 p.m. tipoff.
GVSU and Michigan Tech were tied 30-30 after 20 minutes of action and trailed by just three (48-45) with 9:17 left in the game. However, MTU went on a 8-0 run over the next five minutes to take a 56-45 lead with just 4:40 left in the contest. The Lakers missed seven straight shots during that span and turned the ball over three times.
Grand Valley State shot just 42.6 percent from the floor (23-54), while MTU connected on 56.5 percent of its shots from the floor (26-46). The Huskies also converted 11-of-12 free throws. Niki Reams led GVSU with 15 points and nine rebounds. Janine Guastella added 12 points and Erika Ryskamp chipped in 10 points.
