GVSU Tied School Record With 16th Consecutive Win

Grand Valley State tied the school record for most consecutive wins at 16 with an 80-64 decision at home against Northwood Wednesday night. The Lakers improve to 21-4 overall and 15-1 in GLIAC action, while the Timberwolves fall to 7-17 and 3-12. GVSU will finish the regular season on the road next week against Michigan Tech (2/24) and Northern Michigan (2/26).

The first half went back and forth as there were six ties and five lead chages. Junior forward Niki Reams converted 1-of-2 free throws with 36 second left to give the Lakers a 31-28 halftime lead.

The game was tied at 44-44 with 13:49 in the second half, but GVSU went on an 8-0 run to take a 52-44 lead with 11:30 remaining. The Lakers increased the lead to 15 points on a Reams jumper with 2:59 left in the game.

Niki Reams tallied 20 points and seven rebounds. Eighteen of her 20 points came in the second half. Sophomore guard Erika Ryskamp recorded 18 points, seven rebounds, and three assists, while freshman guard Crystal Zick added 10 points and two assists. Freshman center Rachael Willett recorded eight points, three rebounds, and two blocked shots and senior guard Janine Guastella added eight points and three rebounds.

The Lakers are ranked #21 in the nation and #1 in the Great Lakes Region.
