Lakers Claim 75-54 Win Over Northwood

Allendale, Mich. - Grand Valley State jumped out to a 40-19 halftime lead and cruised to a 75-54 GLIAC victory Saturday night over Northwood. GVSU improves to 6-2 overall and 2-0 in GLIAC action, while Northwood falls to 1-4 and 0-2.

GVSU led 21-15 when Niki Reams hit a layup at the 7:55 mark of the first half. Reams' bucket started an 8-0 run that put the Lakers up 29-15 with 5:59 remaining when Erin Cyplik connected on a jumper from the wing. A pair of free throws by Reams gave GVSU the 19 point halftime advantage. GVSU scored 18 points in the paint, 18 points of Northwood turnovers and 13 second chance points in the opeing 20 minutes.

The second half was much of the same as GVSU led by 20 points or more for the final 18:41. The Lakers built a 27 point lead when Rachael Willett hit a pair of free throws at the 13:24 mark.

Niki Reams led GVSU with 26 points and 10 rebounds, while Erika Ryskamp chipped in 15 points and 10 rebounds. Erin Cyplik added eight points and nine caroms. GVSU outrebounded NU 46-39, including a 24-12 advantage on the offensive glass. GVSU was 35-44 from the charity stripe and notched 14 steals.
