#10 Grand Valley State claimed a 67-50 victory over Dominican (NY) in the second and final game of the 2005 Hoop 'N Surf Tournament in Honolulu, Hawaii Wednesday afternoon. GVSU went 2-0 in the eight-team tournament and improved to 10-2 on the year.
GVSU led by as many as 16 in the opening stanza, but a scrappy Dominican squad hit a shot at the buzzer and converted a foul shot with no time remaining the opening half to pull within six (34-28). However, the would be as close as Dominican would get as the Lakers opening the second half with an 8-0 run to pull out to a 42-28 lead. GVSU maintained at least a 14 point lead for the remainder of the game and cruised to the 17 point win.
All-American Niki Reams tallied her second straight double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds, while Erika Ryskamp added 11 points, five assists and four rebounds. Julia Braseth chipped in eight points and 10 rebounds. GVSU outrebounded Dominican by a 38-33 margin and forced 20 turnovers. The Lakers hit 46.0 percent from the floor (23-50) and hit 18-of-29 foul shots.
