Grand Valley State jumped out to an 13-0 lead and never looked back en route to an 82-47 victory Thursday night in University Center, Mich. over GLIAC rival Saginaw Valley State. GVSU improves to 5-2 overall and 1-0 in GLIAC action.
Nike Reams, Erika Ryskamp and Crystal Zick opened the contest with three-pointers and the Lakers led by 16 points (20-4) at the 14:03 mark of the first half. GVSU led by 20 or more points for the final 17:54 and built its largest lead of the game (38 points) when Nikki Zimmerman hit a free throw with 4:28 left.
15 Lakers scored in the contest, led by Niki Reams' 18 points. Crystal Zick added 15 points, six rebounds and five assists, while Ericka Ryskamp chipped in 11 points and six assists. Rachaell Willett scored eight points and Erin Cyplik tallied seven points and pulled down six rebounds. GVSU shot 51.7 percent from the floor and limited SVSU to just 30.2 percent. The Lakers outrebounded the Cardinals 46-34.
