Lakers Fend Off Hounds For 63-45 Victory

Allendale, Mich. - Junior Kyle Carhart poured in 13 points off the Laker bench as Grand Valley defeated Indianapolis 63-45 Saturday night at the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena. GVSU improves to 7-2 on the season and a perfect 5-0 at home. The Lakers will host another GLVC foe on Tuesday, Dec. 20 when Northern Kentucky comes to town.

The Lakers used a 9-0 run late in the first half to fuel their 33-22 halftime lead. The run featured one of Carhart's three three-pointers and back-to-back layups by Jason Jamerson. The Greyhounds shot 66.7% (6-9) from the behind the arc but just 31.8% (7-22) from the field in the opening half. Sophomore guard Jason Jamerson scored eight points and pulled down seven rebounds in the first 20 minutes.

Grand Valley outscored Indianapolis 30-23 in the second half en route to the 63-45 victory. The Lakers outrebounded the Greyhounds 39-27 which marked the eighth time in nine games the Lakers have outrebounded their opponents. The Greyhounds only managed three field goals from within the three-point arc on the night, but were able to shoot 50.0% (11-22) from three-point range.

Sophomore center Callistus Eziukwu added 13 points, six rebounds, five steals along with three assists and three blocked shots. Jamerson finished with 11 points and eight reobounds while only playing six minutes in the second half. Senior Courtney James tallied nine points and dished out four assists in the victory.

The win bumps GVSU's record against GLVC opponents to 2-1. The Lakers look to avenge an earlier loss at Northern Kentucky (73-63) when the Norse travel to Allendale, Mich. to take on the Lakers Tuesday, Dec. 20 at 7 pm.
