#11 GVSU Edges SVSU, 3-1

Allendale, Mich. - The Grand Valley State Women's Soccer Team scored two goals in the first three minutes against Saginaw Valley State and held on the rest of the way for a key 3-1 GLIAC victory. Senior Jenny Swalec opened up the scoring at the one minute mark with a shot from the top of the box to give the Lakers a quick 1-0 lead. Junior Erin Murphy recorded the win as the Lakers improved to 16-2 and are now tied atop the GLIAC at 6-1. GVSU finishes the regular season Nov. 5 at home against West Michigan rival Ferris State at 1 pm.

Freshman Katy Tafler tallied the second goal just two minutes after Swalec's to give the Lakers a 2-0 lead. The two teams battled back and forth throughout the rest of the first half and went into the break with a two goal advantage. Saginaw Valley State's Tammie Edmunds cut the Laker lead to one at the 64 minute mark when she beat Laker keeper, Erin Murphy. Tafler added an insurance goal at the 79 minute mark to up the Laker lead to two once again.

Swalec added an assist on the day in addition to her goal. Swalec ranks third on the squad with 22 points on the year. Tafler is just one goal short of tying senior Mirela Tutundzic's single-season record of 23 goals.
