Lakers Sweep Northwood, 3-0

#17 Grand Valley State improved to 20-4 overall and 12-1 in the GLIAC as they swept Northwood, 3-0 (30-20, 30-27, 30-17) Friday night. GVSU has won 10 matches in a row and 30 out of its last 33 games. The Lakers will host Saginaw Valley State on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. for the last regular season home match.

GVSU took game one, 30-20 as they hit .341. The Lakers won game two, 30-27 and closed out the sweep with a 30-17 victory.

Senior middle blocker Tracy Kirk posted a team-high 23 kills, one solo and one assisted block, while hitting .486 in the match. Junior middle blocker Meghan Moore added 10 kills, two solo and two assisted blocks, while junior outside hitter Megan Helsen recorded seven kills, two aces, three digs, and an assisted block.

Junior libero Alyson Riley tallied 22 digs and and two aces and sophomore Cortney Lokker added 10 digs, four kills, and a .667 hitting percentage. Redshirt freshman Jamie Ashmore recorded a team-high 29 assists, while freshman Kelly Hogan added 16 assists.

GVSU hit .344 as a team, while Northwood hit just .152. The Lakers tallied six service aces and added five team blocks.
