Lakers Defeat Hillsdale, 3-1

#15 Grand Valley State defeated GLIAC South Division foe Hillsdale College, 3-1 (26-30, 31-29, 30-28, 30-26) in a tough battle Saturday afternoon. The Lakers improve to 19-4 overall and 11-1 in GLIAC action, while the Chargers fall to 15-8 and 8-4.

Hillsdale College won game one, 30-26, but Grand Valley came back to pull out a tight 31-29 win in game two. GVSU recorded a 30-28 game three win and sealed the match with a 30-26 win in game four.

Senior middle blocker Tracy Kirk led the Lakers once again with 17 kills, a .310 hitting percentage, five digs, and five assisted blocks. Junior middle blocker Meghan Moore added 15 kills, six digs, two solo and three assisted blocks, while hitting .400.

Senior outside hitter Tina Troblay recorded nine kills and junior outside hitter Megan Helsen posted nine kills, eight digs, and two assisted blocks. Redshirt freshman Jamie Ashmore tallied 47 assists, while sophomore libero Alyson Riley added a team-high 21 digs.

GVSU will host its final two regular season home matches next weekend. The Lakers will play Northwood on Friday, Oct. 21 at 7:00 p.m. and Saginaw Valley State on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 4:00 p.m.
