#15 GVSU Wins Eighth Straight, Sweeps Wayne State

#15 Grand Valley State won its eighth straight match, defeating Wayne State, 3-0 (30-23, 30-27, 30-18) on Friday in a GLIAC matchup in Detroit, Mich. The Lakers improve to 18-4 overall and 10-1 in GLIAC play, while the Warriors drop to 13-5 and 5-5. Grand Valley will travel to Hillsdale College on Saturday, Oct. 15 at noon.

Senior middle blocker Tracy Kirk followed her career-high 31 kill performance on Tuesday with another outstanding performance against Wayne State. Kirk tallied 21 kills, a .529 hitting percentage, two digs, and an assisted block.

Sophomore middle blocker Erica Vanderkopple added eight kills, three digs, and a solo block, while junior middle blocker Meghan Moore recorded eight kills, three digs, a .353 attack percentage, and one solo and one assisted block.

Redshirt freshman Jamie Ashmore matched her career-high with 48 assists, while sophomore Alyson Riley led GVSU with 15 digs. Junior outside hitter Megan Helsen posted five kills, an ace, 12 digs, and two solo blocks.

Grand Valley State hit .278 as a team, while Wayne State recorded a .081 attack percentage. GVSU also added seven service aces and seven blocks.

The Lakers have swept 12 out of its last 14 opponents.
