Grand Valley overcame scoring droughts at the end of each half to post a 75-69 overtime victory over Northwood. The Lakers were held without a field goal the last 4:59 of the first half and 4:25 of the second. Grand Valley improves to 14-5 overall and 7-3 in the GLIAC. Northwood falls to 7-10 overall and 3-7 in the GLIAC. Grand Valley returns home for a two game home stand against GLIAC opponents Northern Michigan and Michigan Tech. The Lakers will host Northern Michigan on Thursday, February 3 at 8 p.m.
Courtney James led the Lakers with 16 points including eight in the extra session. James went five of six from the free throw line in overtime. Grand Valley connected on a season-high 29 free throws on the night. The Lakers shot a stellar 76.9% from the line as a team. Grand Valley connected on 10 of 13 free throws in overtime.
Grand Valley jumped out to a 67-61 advantage in overtime on a layup by Mike Hall with 2:44 left. The Lakers then converted eight of their 10 free throws to maintain their lead despite shooting 25.0% from the field.
Grand Valley trailed 31-29 at the half after leading for the entire first half. Northwood's Graham Mertz connected on a 3-pointer with 53 seconds left to give the Timberwolves their only lead of the half. Callistus Eziukwu was in foul trouble in the first half but tallied six points in only six minutes of action. Eziukwu finished the night with 14 points, five rebounds, and two blocks. The Lakers had four different players score in double figures on the night. Jason Jamerson had 13 points and six rebounds, while Mike Hall added 15 points off the bench.
