Niki Reams led the Lakers to a 59-48 win over Northwood with her seventh double-double of the season. Reams tallied 19 points and 14 rebounds on the night. Grand Valley improves their record to 15-4 overall and 9-1 in the GLIAC, while Northwood drops to 7-12 overall and 3-7 in the GLIAC. The Lakers return home on Thursday, February 3, to host GLIAC North foe at 6 p.m.
Grand Valley and Northwood battled back and forth throughout the first half before the Lakers opened up a 10 point lead thanks to a 10-0 run at the 4:23 mark of the half. The score was tied 20-20 when the Lakers reeled off their 10-0 run. The run spanned 3:19 and was capped off by a Crystal Zick layup at the 1:04 mark. Grand Valley went into the break with a 32-22 lead. Julia Braseth led the Lakers in scoring at the half with nine points, Reams added seven points and eight rebounds.
Grand Valley turned the ball over five times in the first five minutes of the second half as the Timberwolves trimmed the Laker lead to 34-31. The Lakers once again used another scoring run to extend their lead in the second half by posting a 10-2 run at the 5:27 mark. Erika Ryskamp capped off the run with a layup with 1:51 left in the game.
Grand Valley forced 25 turnovers and held Northwood to 34.0% shooting from the field. The Lakers had four scorers in double-digits led by Reams' 19. Erika Ryskamp recorded 12 points and four steals in the game, while Braseth finished with 11 points and nine rebounds. Crystal Zick added in 10 points and two assists for the Lakers.
