Wayne State used a hot shooting night and a 21-point performance from Ethan Banks en route to a 70-58 victory over Grand Valley State Thursday night at the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena. GVSU falls to 10-4 overall and 4-2 in GLIAC action.
Banks hit all six of his field goal attempts, all of which were three-pointers, and 3-of-4 free throws. Four Warriors scored in double figures. The game was tied twice, but WSU took a 6-4 lead and never trailed from that point. GVSU pulled to within 22-21 with just over two minutes left in the opening half, but Wayne State scored the final five points of the half to take a 27-21 lead. GVSU would get no closer than the six points they trailed by at the half and found themselves behind by as many as 17 points in the second half.
Callistus Eziukwu led GVSU with 16 points. Mike Hall added nine points, Jeff Grauzer tallied eight, while Brian Arnold and Jerry Wallace each netted seven. GVSU was outrebounded 27-23 and converted just 15-of-27 free throws.
GVSU will host Hillsdale Saturday night in 1975 Throwback Night. GVSU will wear similar uniforms that the 1975 team wore and fans are encouraged to dress in 1975 clothing.
