Grand Valley swept Ashland, 3-0 (30-18, 30-19, 30-22) in its GLIAC opener in Allendale, Mich. Friday night. The Lakers improve to 9-3 overall and 1-0 in GLIAC action, while Ashland falls to 8-2, 1-1. GVSU will host Findlay in another GLIAC matchup on Saturday, Sept. 18 at 4:00 p.m.
The Lakers recorded a 30-18 win in game one behind a .371 attack percentage as a team. GVSU went on to win game two, 30-19 and hit .500 in game three with a 30-22 victory. Grand Valley hit .369 on the match, while Ashland tallied a 0.65 attack percentage.
Junior Lauren Hanson recorded a match-high 13 kills, five assisted blocks, and a .526 hitting percentage, while junior Tracy Kirk added 12 kills, three total blocks, and a .647 attack percentage. Sophomore Megan Helsen tallied nine kills, four service aces, and nine digs and junior Tina Troblay recorded 13 digs. Junior Michele Ehrlich posted 41 assisted and 12 digs, while redshirt freshman Alyson Riley tallied a match-high 20 digs.
Grand Valley State has won its last five matches and 11 games in a row.
