Lakers Defeat Alderson-Broaddus, 2-0, in Game One of Regional Tournament

#3-seeded Grand Valley State defeated #6 Alderson-Broaddus, 2-0, in the second game of the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Tournament Thursday hosted by Northern Kentucky. GVSU improves to 33-6 overall and will play #2-seeded Lewis University at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

Senior Jennifer Mackson (22-2) picked up her 100th career win as she pitched all seven innings, allowing just two hits, while striking out seven. Mackson becomes just the 13th pitcher to record 100 career wins in NCAA Division II history.

The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the fourth inning in which GVSU posted two runs. Senior 3B Lindsay Crawford singled to center field to start off the inning and advanced to second on a sacrafice by senior 1B Sara Vroegindewey. Senior 2B Jennifer Goldschmeding singed to center field, scoring the first run. Sophomore RF Shelby Brayton drove in the other run on a single to center field.

The Lakers tallied eight hits in the game and was led by sophomore CF Tara Marsh who went 2-for-2 and Crawford who was 2-for-3.
